FAQ

What is the difference between a patio cover and a pergola?

Our pergolas have an adjustable louvered roof – you control how open or closed it is depending on the weather. A patio cover is a fixed, permanent roof structure that provides complete, year-round weather protection with no adjustments required. Pergolas offer more flexibility and airflow; patio covers offer more complete shelter.

A retractable awning deploys and retracts on demand – it’s the most flexible and cost-effective shade option, but it doesn’t provide protection from rain when retracted, and it’s not rated for snow load. A permanent patio cover provides year-round shelter and can carry snow load. The right choice depends on your climate exposure, budget, and how you plan to use the space.

Yes. Our insulated panel and glass roofs, as well as polycarbonate systems, are engineered for Canadian snow load requirements and meet the National Building Code of Canada. We confirm suitability for your specific span during the consultation.

Absolutely. Adding retractable screens is one of our most popular upgrades, and our patio cover systems are designed to accept them without structural modification. Glass or vinyl windows can also be added to convert a patio cover and screen system into a full three-season sunroom over time.

Clear panels transmit 74% of light – maximum brightness, ideal for spaces that need full natural light year-round. Bronze panels transmit 25% – strong shade for hot, south-facing spaces. Opal Ice panels transmit 20-26% with a soft, diffused quality that reduces glare and heat while still feeling bright. We’ll recommend the right tint for your sun exposure and intended use during the consultation.

Yes – our retractable awnings come equipped with integrated LED lighting, making them an excellent option for evening entertaining outdoors. We have multiple colour fabric options in stock to complement your home.

Most patio cover and awning installations are completed in a few days. Larger or more complex structures may take longer depending on span and foundation requirements. We’ll give you a clear installation timeline at your consultation.
